John Lewis Candlelight Vigils

JohnLewisJuly17.jpeg

On July 17, a year after John Lewis’ passing, the Transformative Justice Coalition, Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, Public Citizen, Declaration For American Democracy and many others to call for nationwide candlelight vigils – Good Trouble Vigils for Democracy – to demand the passage of the For the People Act, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, DC Statehood and to not let the Jim Crow filibuster stand in the way.

RSVP and spread the word for the Good Trouble for Democracy Movement Call on Wednesday, July 7 at 8pm ET for an update on the effort to win and learn more about the vigils.

And fill out this partner form to become part of the effort.

America is at a crossroads. We have reached an inflection point in which we must force our elected officials to act now or risk losing our republic.

Our democracy is under attack. We are approaching the six-month anniversary of the failed January 6th attack on our nation, anti-voter laws are being passed in states all over the country, the U.S. Supreme Court issued rulings further undermine our freedom to vote and limiting states ability to require large donors to disclose their campaign contributions.

And this Summer, Congressional districts risk being redrawn in a way that will allow politicians to choose their voters – rather than the voters fairly choosing who represents them.

But there is hope for us to stop this undercurrent of corruption and rebuild American democracy so that the freedom to vote is protected, billionaires don’t control our political systems, and our representatives actually respond to we the people.

To do this, we must pass the For the People Act, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and D.C. Statehood – and we can’t let anything, including the Jim Crow filibuster, stand in our way!

Join us for a national mobilizing call to learn how we can take action on July 17 – the one year mark of the passing of Rep.John Lewis- to make good trouble with Good Trouble for Democracy candlelight vigils nationwide demanding that Congress act to protect our freedom to vote and rebuild our democracy.

We must and will win this Fight!

John Lewis Mobilization Town Hall

210329_JohnLewisMobilizationTownHall_TW_v2_20210329155624580754.png

Join activists on Wednesday, March 31st at 7 pm ET for the John Lewis Mobilization Town Hall. This town hall is for activists and local organizations to learn more about the May 8th John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Day of Action where we will take the streets with more than 100 “Votercades” in more than 100 cities.

The voting rights of America’s Voters of Color and Youth Voters are under attack nationally by state legislators introducing and passing laws to suppress their participation in elections. Join more than 50 organizations sponsoring the May 8 John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Day to learn how you can help mobilize to pass the For the People Act, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, DC Statehood and address the filibuster. Together, we can build a better democracy!

Our mobilization will show public support for restoring the effectiveness of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 which was decimated and eroded by the Supreme Court in Shelby v. Holder.

On this day, street activism will join virtual activism as people across the country take to the streets for a car caravan votercade. This national organizing strategy will also introduce a new concept to engage young voters and “next generation voters” through the use of a “Virtual Voter Activist Village.”
